Glossary
How long should a podcast intro be?
Short. Aim for 15–30 seconds of music and talk before the content starts; under ten seconds for a show people binge. Listeners skip long intros, and the platforms measure that skipping. The theme itself can be longer if it plays under your voice rather than on its own.
The common failure is a full-length jingle followed by a spoken intro that repeats what the title already said. Put the music under the words instead of before them and the intro halves without losing anything.
In Cast, generate the intro at the length you want — pricing is per five seconds, so a 20-second cue costs a small, predictable amount — and let it duck under the opening line. For a returning audience, an intro that is recognisable in two seconds beats one that is impressive in twenty.
