Staff picks
D sharp is the same piano key as E flat, and most music in this key is written as E flat major, with three flats. It is a warm, round key that brass players and jazz musicians know well.
Where D sharp tracks fit
- jazz and lounge backgrounds;
- warm, heroic orchestral moments;
- DJ sets with C minor or B flat major;
- relaxed brand and lifestyle videos.
The warmth of E flat
Trumpets, saxophones and many other wind instruments are pitched in B flat or E flat, so E flat major sits comfortably on them. Beethoven's Eroica Symphony is in E flat. D sharp minor, or E flat minor, is much darker and rarer. In Camelot notation E flat major is 5B. Big bands and brass sections play in it all the time.
