Staff picks
A is the note orchestras tune to, usually at 440 Hz, so it is a natural reference point in music. A major has three sharps and sounds bright, while A minor uses only the white piano keys and sounds plain and melancholic.

Two sides of A
A major is a favorite of guitarists and pop writers for its ringing, confident sound. A minor shares every note with C major, its relative major, which makes it one of the most used minor keys in film, pop and dance music. In Camelot notation A minor is 8A.
