Staff picks
Psychill is the slow, dreamy side of psychedelic electronic music. It swaps the driving beats of psytrance for arpeggiated synths, trippy effects and a floating pulse.
Where psychill fits
- meditation and visualizer videos;
- festival chill zones and sunrise sets;
- nature and space footage;
- yoga and relaxation classes.
Trippy and calm
Psychill, also called psybient, uses the same sound design as psytrance, with bubbling synths, swirling filters and spacey delays, but at a much slower pace. Tempos often drop below 110 BPM, and ambient textures fill the space between beats. For visualizers and festival chill zones, long tracks with slowly evolving effects keep the audience drifting. For yoga and meditation, choose tracks with softer beats and more ambient space.
Make a psychill track
Describe it, for example slow psychedelic ambient with bubbling synths for a visualizer, and Mubert Render writes an original track. For the faster original, see Psytrance.
