Staff picks
Deep and progressive, trance keeps you going until dawn. It grew in Germany in the early 1990s, with fast, hard-hitting kicks and melodies built to lift a whole crowd.
Where trance fits
- festival and travel recaps;
- drone and landscape footage;
- sports and adventure videos;
- night drive and city content.
The trance build
Tempos sit around 130 to 140 BPM. Rolling basslines, arpeggiated synths and long breakdowns that strip the beat away, then a big build back into the drop. The repetition and slow rise create a hypnotic, almost meditative state. For festival and travel recaps, cut the biggest moment on the drop after a breakdown. For drone footage, soaring melodies match the camera's rise.
Make a trance track
Describe it, for example driving progressive trance with arpeggios and a long breakdown for a drone video, and Mubert Render writes an original track. More on the tempo is on the 134 BPM page.
