As Music Ally has been covering the latest wave of AI-generated music startups, we’ve argued that one of the most interesting uses for this technology is social – a way to create background music for videos and other posts in apps like Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat. That’s one reason why the acquisition of AI-music startup Jukedeck by TikTok’s parent company Bytedance this year was interesting, and also why a user-generated-content-angled partnership between AI firm Amper Music and Tencent Music also raised our eyebrows.
Fans of the ‘rule of three’ take note: another AI-music startup, Mubert, has launched a new app that’s all about social soundtracks. The app is called Zen 8: Music for Stories, and it’s initially available for Apple’s iPhone. “Zen 8 adds music to your stories. There’s just one button. Tap it once and app will create a unique looped music in chosen genre, mood or theme. Share it on Instagram and Snapchat right from the app, or save your video to your camera roll to share later,” explains its App Store listing. “No royalty issues”. It’s a clever idea, although as we’ve suggested before, where this ends up is more likely to be AI-music-generation tools within the big social apps, at the point of video creation / sharing. Zen 8 isn’t the only new app from Mubert though: the company has just released For: Background Music, offering ‘nonstop background music’ for contexts like studying, driving, working out and sleeping, with a $69.99 annual subscription.
