Apple is putting an AI helper inside its music software. The Logic Pro AI assistant arrives in beta with the November update to Apple Creator Studio, Apple’s subscription bundle of creative apps. Apple says it can start songs, set up a vocal track from one typed request and tidy up old projects. This post is for musicians, producers and video creators who use Logic. So it covers what Apple announced, which Macs qualify, what else ships and what we think actually changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Apple announced for Logic Pro on October 27<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple announced the update<\/a> on October 27. For music people, the headline is a new “intelligent assistant” in Logic Pro for Mac, labelled beta. It has three jobs. It can “start a new song, set up a vocal track from a single prompt, or refine an active project.” A prompt here just means a request typed in plain language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Logic Pro AI assistant runs on “a combination of Apple-built and third-party models”, Apple says. 9to5Mac<\/a> and IT Brief<\/a> report that the third party is OpenAI. So part of the brain in Apple’s own DAW is borrowed. (This is the company that designs its own chips.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vocal-track promise is the part that will sell it, because on paper setting up a vocal track sounds trivial. It isn’t. You pick the input, make the channel mono, load a compressor and an EQ, turn on monitoring, arm the track and then, after a lovely take, discover you recorded four minutes on the wrong microphone. We did exactly that once. Great take. It was recorded from across the room by the guitar amp mic, which technically still counts as a sound. That’s the chore the Logic Pro AI assistant is meant to remove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happened so far<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The update hasn’t shipped as of November 1. Here’s the timeline:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. January 13, 2026: Apple unveils Creator Studio, bundling Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro, Reuters reported<\/a>. The price is $12.99 a month or $129 a year.<\/li>\n\n\n
  2. January 28, 2026: the subscription goes on sale in the App Store.<\/li>\n\n\n
  3. October 27, 2026: Apple announces the update, including the Logic Pro AI assistant and a drum Stem Splitter.<\/li>\n\n\n
  4. November 2026: the update is due in the App Store, free for existing subscribers. No exact day yet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    We’ll update this post when it lands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Who gets the Logic Pro AI assistant, and on which Mac<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The hardware list is short. That matters. MacTrast<\/a> notes that the assistant is Mac only. It needs a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence and runs macOS 27. It’s also U.S. English only for now. If you produce on an iPad, you get Logic’s new Liquid Glass look but not the assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So the Logic Pro AI assistant comes with three conditions: the subscription, the right computer and the right language setting. Plenty of studio Macs stay on an older macOS on purpose, because a working setup beats new features every single time someone has a deadline. If that’s your Mac, the assistant will stay a rumour until you update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Some outlets already call this release “Logic Pro 13”. But Apple’s own announcement uses no version number, so we don’t either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Pricing is simple. New U.S. subscribers pay $12.99 a month or $129 a year, with a one-month free trial, Apple says. Apple also still sells Logic Pro outright for $199.99 in the Mac App Store. MacRumors<\/a> reports that this one-time version gets the new features in November too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Drum Stem Splitter and the new sound Browser<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The Logic Pro AI assistant gets the headlines. Stem Splitter may get more use, though. It’s Logic’s tool for pulling a mixed song apart into separate parts, called stems. Apple says it can now “isolate, replace, or rebalance drum parts without needing the original multitracks”. Multitracks are the separate recordings behind a finished mix, which most people never get to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That helps if you remix or sample. It also rescues the demo where the drums are too loud and the session file died with an old laptop. Stem separation is now showing up everywhere (we covered Moises bringing it to SoundCloud tracks<\/a> recently). Still, splitting out the drums changes what a bedroom producer can do with a finished bounce. But splitting something doesn’t clear it. A drum loop pulled out of someone else’s record is still someone else’s drum loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Then there’s the redesigned Browser on Mac. It puts loops, instruments and effect patches in one place. It also uses “music understanding” to analyse and tag the sounds you add, on the device. So you drag in a loop. It finds audio that fits. Apple’s summary also mentions a Splice library inside the Browser, without more detail yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The update also adds Voice Memo Studio Sound, which cuts room noise from recordings made on supported iPhones. There’s also a producer pack from Sergio George with salsa and Latin jazz loops, IT Brief reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What the Logic Pro AI assistant changes for creators<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Our view: it’s an assistant for operating the software. Apple sells it that way too, with wording about workflows, learning the app and setting things up. Brent Chiu-Watson is Apple’s senior director of Worldwide Product Marketing for Apps and iCloud. He said the assistants will change “how people interact with and learn to use these apps.” The key word is use<\/em>. Nothing in Apple’s description says the Logic Pro AI assistant composes music or generates audio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That’s sensible. Logic is a pro tool with a famously steep first week, so a helper that knows where the buttons are makes starting cheaper and leaves the music to the person in the chair. That also keeps Apple well away from the training-data lawsuits we cover almost daily. (Apple builds the music side another way: it bought Samplab, the AI editor that changes chords in recorded audio<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For video creators the picture is different. You don’t want a faster way to route a microphone. Instead, you want a finished track that fits the edit and that you’re allowed to publish. Different job. Still, editing happens in both. In Mubert’s own data, last 28 days, about one in five tracks made in Render<\/a> gets re-cut to another length. So people treat generated music as a draft too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What to do before the November update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    First, check the boring part. Open About This Mac and check if your machine supports Apple Intelligence and can run macOS 27. If your studio Mac has to stay on an older system, decide that before November rather than halfway through a session with a client on the sofa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Got old bounces with drums you always wanted to fix? Put them in a folder now, because the drum Stem Splitter is the feature you’ll use on day one. As for vocals, the Logic Pro AI assistant can arm the track for you. It still can’t tell which microphone is pointing at your face.
