YouTube is testing extra pay for something most Shorts creators already feel guilty about skipping: posting on a schedule. Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie presented the YouTube Shorts bonus program in a Creator Insider video<\/a>. It is invite-only. It runs in six countries. This post is for Shorts creators who want to know what it pays for, who gets in, what the fine print says and whether it should change how they plan a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The short version is that YouTube now pays some people just for showing up, like a gym that gives you cash for attendance. You only need to be on the gym’s guest list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What the YouTube Shorts bonus pays for<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

YouTube’s help page for the program<\/a> describes two payments. The first is a “Promotional Offer Payment”, a minimum amount for uploading at least a set number of public Shorts in each calendar month. The second is a “Promotional Bonus”, at most one a month and not guaranteed. It depends on your valid, engaged Shorts views and on typical earnings in your country. Neither amount is public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The posting quota isn’t either. Music Ally reports<\/a> that the minimum requirements for the YouTube Shorts bonus come in each invitation email, and creators agree to them when they accept. So far the only number around is from an invitation a user shared on X. It asked for 16 Shorts a month. Social Media Today notes<\/a> that YouTube hasn’t confirmed that figure, and the quota may vary by creator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The views that count are also a smaller set than what your analytics show. Only organic engaged views count, so views from ads don’t. Google validates them first, which can take several days, and the help page warns that the final figure for the YouTube Shorts bonus may not match YouTube Analytics. So your dashboard shows an estimate, not an invoice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who gets the YouTube Shorts bonus invite, and who can’t apply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nobody can apply. According to Tubefilter<\/a> and Music Ally, the YouTube Shorts bonus test covers selected Partner Program members in the US, UK, Germany, Brazil, Japan and South Korea. (The Partner Program, or YPP, is the scheme that lets a channel earn money on YouTube in the first place.) Invitations go by email to the channel’s primary contact address and show up as a notification in YouTube Studio. Eligible channels also get an “Active bonuses” card under the Earn tab. The help page says Creator Support can’t add channels by hand, in the calm tone of someone who has already been asked a thousand times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dates matter more than the money. Accept by the 15th and that month’s Shorts count toward your YouTube bonus. Accept later, and you wait a month. You also have to hit the quota before the month ends and still be monetizing on its last day, or the month doesn’t count. Payment arrives with your regular AdSense for YouTube earnings, usually from the 21st to the 26th of the next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google can change, cancel or pause the test with 30 days’ notice, or straight away for legal, security or abuse reasons. Ritchie said more creators may get invitations in the coming months. The help page expects more opportunities “as the program scales in 2027”. Neither gives a date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
